Space Awareness endorses First African Space Generation Workshop
Organized by the the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC)

From 16-17 November 2017 in Akure City, Nigeria, the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) will organize the First African Space Generation Workshop (AF-SGW). Space Awareness endorses this workshop, which is organized by the SGAC in support of the United Nations Programme on Space Applications.

The workshop will gather up to 100 African delegates aged between 18 and 35 years old, especially university students and young professionals working in the African space sector. Participants will discuss issues of critical interest to the growing space sector in Africa under the theme “Space: The Driver of the Desired Future in Africa”.

The discussions are expected to produce recommendations to relevant public, private and nongovernmental stakeholders, helping to shape and provide insight into the future of the African space sector. Furthermore, reports from the workshop will be presented at conferences and included in the SGAC annual report submitted to the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS).

The Space Awareness project will be represented by Ramasamy Venugopal, from the IAU Office of Astronomy for Development (OAD), who will introduce the Space Awareness project and its alignments with the African Union Space Strategy within the framework of a discussion about the roles of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) in Developing the Space Industry in Africa.
